Evening on Antique Row to benefit Historical Society of Palm Beach County is one of our favorite events to work on each year. More than 2,000 guests descend upon West Palm Beach's famed Antique Row art, design and antique district for food, wine, music and after-hours shopping in the local boutiques.
This year, It! Weddings & Events was invited to create an event within the event, which we dubbed our It! Party to GO! The setup allowed us to partner with some of our favorite Palm Beach vendors, including Atlas Party Rentals, Bulletproof Wine & Spirits, Regency Party Rentals, Salon Margrit, Tom Mathieu & Co. and Cafe Boulud Palm Beach. We also had the opportunity to work with new partners like Jemma Coleman Photography and Globadyne Productions.

It! Interview: Sommelier Jenny Benzie dishes on one of our favorite topics: WINE!

Sommelier Jenny Benzie, owner of Pour Sip Savor: An Assemblage of Sommelier Services, splits her time between Palm Beach and Nantucket (and Napa, and Ribera del Duero, and...), pouring, sipping and savoring the world's finest wines. As you can imagine, she's one of our favorite people to chat (and drink) with.

We caught up with her in advance of the Simply Italian Great Wines U.S. Tour 2011 stop at the Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach (stay tuned for our favorite vintages from the event later this week) to ask her the questions that are always top of mind for our clients.

Here's a taste:

What are the most important things to consider when selecting wine for a wedding reception?

While it is your 'big day' and there are many things to consider to make your event memorable, the wine you choose to serve should not be overlooked. There is nothing worse than arriving at the bar to only be offered 'red and white.'

Make sure to choose wines that are user-friendly for the type of wedding event you are planning and that pair with the food that you are serving. Most people are familiar with Chardonnay and while it might be appropriate for a four-course sit down meal, is that big, buttery oak bomb appropriate for an outdoor cocktail reception? Cabernet Sauvignon is great with beef, but you're serving a choice of chicken or fish. If you are only serving one red and one white for the entire event, choose a wine that is 'middle-of-the road.' Sauvignon blanc or albarino are more exciting than pinot grigio and not as big as most chardonnays; pinot noir may be too light and malbec too big for red. Select instead perhaps something made from tempranillo (Ribera del Duero from Spain) or a blend from Southern Rhone (made from grenache, syrah, mourvedre).

Also, steer away from wines that your friends can find at the local grocery store. Take a little time to discover something unique that will leave your guests asking, 'Where can I buy more of that wine?'

How much should a bride and groom expect to spend per bottle on wine?

On average, the price per bottle of wine should be double the cost of the main course. If your price is inclusive per person, ask your caterer to break the cost down for you so you know how much that would be. If you are having only a cocktail reception, the caterer should be able to give you an idea of a figure. For example, your appetizer is $15, then main course is $30 and the dessert (wedding cake, of course) is $15. Then the wine would be about $60 per bottle. Feel free to go lower or higher in price based on your budget and the level of sophistication of your guests' palates. Most fine dining establishments will offer an entry-level wine at $50, with selections at $75 and $125 for upgrades. Off-premise caterers may be as inexpensive as $25 per bottle, with $40 and $60 upgrades. Remember that you are paying restaurant pricing for the wines just as you are for the food.

Also, the cost of your wine should be in proportion for the rest of your event. Booked a five-diamond hotel for your reception? Maybe don't serve Prosecco, but you don't need Dom Perignon either. There are many reasonably priced lesser known Champagnes that give you a better bang for the buck: Gimonet, Vilmart, Pierre Peters, Pol Roger. Barefoot on the beach? Cava from Spain would be perfect (think Gramona for excellent quality)!

Do most venues allow couples to bring their own vino? What would be an appropriate corkage charge?

This is always tricky and is definitely depends on the restaurant. Most fine dining restaurants DO NOT allow you to bring in your own wine. Why? Because many people will bring in an everyday wine in order to cut their costs versus serving a wine that is more suitable and appropriate for the food that will be served. If your father has a special collection that he has been saving for your wedding, speak with the banquet manager and let them know that it is no ordinary wine that you are interested in serving. Try to negotiate a set fee for all the wine as a corkage fee, not a corkage fee per bottle opened (if they charge you $50 per bottle, you may be better off paying a flat fee of $500 or $1,000).

For places that do allow you to bring your own wine, they may charge $10-$25. Consider the cost of your wine plus that fee to make sure it's not better a better deal to just buy the $40 bottle that is being offered at the venue.

Are champagne toasts a thing of the past?

Yes and no - if this is your first time at the altar, I think a toast is appropriate. Your best friend wants to wish you well (and tell that embarrassing story...) and your parents are proud. If this is your second (or third) time getting hitched, you may not find a toast necessary. Keep in mind, this adds another cost to your wedding. If your crowd aren't big bubbly drinkers (although I am!), ask to have half glasses poured for each guest instead of a full pour.

When one of our favorite It! Girls called upon It! Weddings & Events to create a fun and fabulous bar mitzvah to celebrate her son's rite of passage, we imagined everything from personal appearances by the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders to a laser-lit driving range for the young sports fans.

But a more tasteful kiddush luncheon affair was in order for friends and family. This fun video montage by LaFrance Films helped share young Andrew's sense of humor (and athletic prowess) while guests enjoyed an elegant three-course luncheon at Pistache French Bistro in West Palm Beach.

To create the montage, we put our heads together to collect the greatest moments in sports history. Photographer Alexi Sheilds captured Andrew's expressive images, and Michael LaFrance brought it all together, compiling video with the edited images and a fist-pumping soundtrack.

House too small for a hundred houseguests? No great room, formal dining room or even elbow room? No problem! Take the party outside and make al fresco memories.
For an afternoon Sip 'n' See in honor of Juliana Elizabeth, our youngest It! Girl, we set round tables in the garden with folding chairs and rustic burlap linens. To enhance Mother Nature's verdant backdrop, we tied fresh jasmine to mauve napkins, and planted budding carnations in mason jars trimmed with twine (guests were invited to take them home to plant in their own gardens). Lanterns were lined with family photos, and piles of miniature lady apples kept the organic feel going.
On the patio, glass vessels filled with gala apples, bosc pears and black mission figs complemented a simple menu of crudites, charcuterie and artisinal cheeses. Mini cupcakes by The Sugar Monkey — chocolate-peanut butter, pumpkin spice and vanilla — invited guests to nibble. Champagne punch, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir rounded out the beverage selections (plus sodas and juices for the kiddos!).

Devil's Night draws 500 for annual costume bash!

Body paint, prosthetic chest hair and larger-than-life candy dots were key costuming elements among the 500 revelers crowding Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens on Oct. 29.

Hosted by Gentlemen of the Gardens, Devil’s Night is one of the biggest and best-attended events to benefit the landmark property. And despite a $50 ticket price increase (guests paid $150-$300 each to attend), this year’s event broke all previous records, raising $50,000.

“It is the GOG's most successful event and Devil's Night to date,” said event co-chair Dack Patriarca.

Guests included honorary chairman Todd Herbst and wife Brandie, chairmen Kevin Clark and Dack Patriarca, Ladies Committee co-chairs Hilary Jordan and yours truly, plus Gentlemen of the Garden president Jonathan Cameron-Hayes, committee members Loy Anderson, Ryan Bridger, Christopher Dunstan and Jay Holmes.

Bobby Leidy took first place in the costume contest, winning a two-night stay at Sunset Key Cottages in Key West for his interpretation of Richard Simmons. “Avatar” Kirsten Braden nabbed second place and a two-day Porsche rental from Chariots of Palm Beach, and Kelly Murray’s vintage Barbie costume landed her a spa package at Jupiter Beach Resort.

Live music from the newly reinvented Big Bang Radio, along with free-flowing Ketel One Vodka cocktails, multiple open bars and ice luges, and food stations from Grease Burger Bar, Rocco’s Tacos, City Cellar and City Oyster kept the crowd entertained. Later, Pistache French Bistro served up bite-sized desserts, and the party continued at Monarchy Nightclub in downtown West Palm Beach.

Entertaining is fun... yet slightly stressful, if you ask me. You want it to be perfect, your guests to have the best time, the food to be delicious and everyone to get along just smashingly. Sounds like a miracle needs to happen.

Enter Aime Dunstan (our miracle!). As president of Palm Beach-based It! Weddings & Events, it's her job -- and passion -- to make every event, from surfside clambakes and verdant garden anniversary soirees to elaborate museum fund-raisers and celebrity weddings the most glorious experience ever. And, trust me. Her creations really are glorious. Aime's also a fashion and society columnist for The Palm Beach Post, a contributing editor for Hamptons Cottages & Gardens magazine and an all-around "it" gal. 5 tips... for the well-heeled hostess

1. What are affordable/creative ways to decorate a table? Are there a few things I should always have on hand?

Linens: Whether its funky table runners and placemats or a classic hemstitch linen tablecloth and napkins, your tablescape begins and ends with linens. Prints are fun, but unless you have a huge assortment, they can be limiting and repetitive. It’s always a good idea to have tablecloths in several solid colors on hand (white and black are must-haves, followed by festive holiday colors and a rustic neutral, like burlap).

Chargers: If you have the storage space, I’d pick up 12 each of silver and gold chargers. They’re made so inexpensively these days (look for them at Target and Pier 1 Imports) that it can cost less to own them than to rent them from your local party store. They instantly jazz up a white plate from your cabinet or caterer. A colored or detailed salad plate, simple flatware and crystal stemware will complete the look — all of which can be rented from your local party store!

Centerpieces: A clear vase never hurts to have on hand, but I love punctuating a table with an unusual centerpiece — perhaps a grouping of potted plants for brunch in the garden, piles of pumpkins and gourds for a fall feast, or a living table runner with tons of fresh pine branches, cones, and berries for a formal winter dinner.

Candles: A must for any dinner table is at least one votive candle between every couple to add warmth and ambiance. Be sure to use unscented candles to let the scents of your home-cooked meal take center stage.

2. What are good dinner party themes? Wait, should I even have a theme?

A theme is like a road map — both for the guest and hostess. A theme can be as simple as a color scheme that begins with your invitation and is carried through your table setting and event decor. (Or it can be as elaborate as a Moroccan feast with oriental rugs, ornate lanterns, and live camels to greet guests at the front gate). Either way, choosing a theme will help you as the hostess to make decisions on menu, décor and entertainment, and it will help your guests know what to wear and what kind of party they’re attending.

Looking for simple dinner party themes? Pick anything that inspires you at the moment, like the season or a favorite color combination (we love aqua and cherry red). A special French dish you’ve wanted to prepare could lead to a romantic night in Paris, while a cool fall breeze could inspire an al fresco autumn feast with a farm-to-table menu celebrating the season’s harvest.

Q: At what size group would you recommend doing place cards? Any tips for placing people?

I adore place cards for luncheons and dinners with 12 and under — any group that fits at a single table. To me, it’s not so much formal as thoughtful.

By selecting where and with whom your guests are seated, you can help foster new relationships by mixing up couples and genders. I think for the most part, people like to know where they’re supposed to go. Giving them a reserved seat means your guests have one less decision to ponder, and it shows you thought of them in advance.

For groups where more than one table is involved, say 12 and higher, I’d recommend escort cards, which are displayed on a table near the entrance and direct each guest to their intended table (you can number your tables, or name them to go along with your theme). You may leave the seating open at their respective tables, or take it one step further and include a place card at each setting.

Q: I sometimes get stressed about what to serve. Any suggestions? Should I do a big dish like paella so it's a dish and side all rolled in to one or make individual pieces of fish, steak, etc.?

Whether you’re serving up a one-dish meal or a multicourse feast, it should be a menu you’re comfortable preparing, and one where the majority of the prep work can be done before your guests arrive. The scents of your home-cooked meal will permeate the air (yum!), and you’ll be relaxed and at ease to entertain your guests. No one likes a frantic hostess!

I love Ina Garten’s “Barefoot Contessa” cookbooks for party recipes. They’re elegant, easy and classic. Just be sure to do a trial run of your menu before the big event so you can adjust the seasonings to your taste the second time around.

Also, be sure and make a quick phone call or send a quick email to find out about your guest’s allergies or dietary restrictions. Pork and seafood dishes can be a huge hit — but not for the guest who’s left to side dishes and salad because you weren’t aware of his or her dietary restrictions.

Don’t let this thought limit your menu to chicken and potatoes — snooze — just make a few calls to cover your bases and let your culinary talents shine!

Q: Are there a few things I can always have in my pantry or fridge to be able to serve up if anyone comes over last minute?

It never hurts to keep noshes on hand such as blue-cheese stuffed olives, almonds and a nice cured sausage to slice up with some fresh cucumber. Club soda or sparkling water is a pantry staple, as are a few bottles of everyday wines (whites and reds) that go with an assortment of foods. Maurizio Ciminella of Amici Ristorante in Palm Beach is opening up Amici gourmet market this fall, and we can’t wait to see what treats he’ll carry for our party guests!

Without question, Neiman Marcus was the It! place to be for Fashion’s Night Out in Palm Beach on Friday, Sept. 10. More than 500 of the island’s beloved fashionistas flocked to the Worth Avenue store as part of VOGUE magazine’s nationwide fashion industry celebration.

Beth Pine, Vice President and General Manager of Neiman Marcus Palm Beach, was on hand to dish on the season’s hottest trends, noting fur, feathers, structured handbags, pantsuits, military chic and hues of green are a few must-haves for fall.

“Fashion's Night Out was celebrated at the most glamorous locations around the world, officially marking the start of Fall fashion season," said Pine. "It was such an honor to host the biggest event in town. Palm Beach was ready to party!”

A focal point of the evening was a live demonstration a la “Project Runway,” when three celebrity It! Boys selected by It! Weddings & Events for their creative vision showcased their interpretations of the latest fall trends using live models and raw materials like bubble wrap, butcher block paper, doilies and feathers. Wedding and event designer Jeff Fowler, artist and Center for Creative Education Assistant Director Kevin Murray, and interior designer Reginald Dunlap of Gray Perez Design Group had the crowd cheering and begging for more as they added the finishing touches to their inventive ensembles, respectively titled “Road Warrior,” “Rock & Lace,” and “The Bubble.”

Also selected by It! Weddings & Events, four celebrity It! Girls brought fashion trends to the table with glamorous fall tabletop designs. Neiman Marcus Palm Beach donated $250 toward the organizations represented by It! Not your ordinary kids' party

When one of our favorite Palm Beach It! Moms wanted to throw a "low-key house party" to celebrate her daughter's 14th birthday and graduation from Palm Beach Day School, we knew it would be no ordinary fete. After all, it's de rigueur for this former New Yorker to grab dinner with Eric Ripert, talk fashion with Zac Posen or take in a Miami Dolphins football game in a private skybox with Fergie.
Taking cues from the guest of honor's love for Japanese mochi ice cream and ramune soda, the It! Girls transformed the family room of their Palm Beach estate into an Asian nightclub with pipe and black velvet drape, masses of flickering pillar candles, disco balls and motion lights — of course you had to make it past two hunky bouncers and a velvet rope to get inside!
Poolside, a sunset butterfly release celebrated their graduation, symbolizing their respective journeys to high schools and boarding schools near and far.
On the menu: Asian fare by Christafaro's Catering served up in Chinese takeout boxes, and sweet treats by The Sugar Monkey in the form of marzipan sushi rolls. A birthday cake in the form of a Chinese takeout box complete with a fortune cookie and edible chopsticks rounded out the theme. DJ Adam Lipson mixed the latest tracks as nearly 100 teens danced the night away, and each guest of the birthday girl departed with a yard of multicolored gumballs at the evening's end.

My husband is very traditional and loves the European culture, while I love the beach and great music. We melded the two by finding a location that resonated with both of us. I wanted water and he wanted history. We found the match at The Barnacle House in Coral Gables. It was a blank canvas with natural textures and elements to blend with our dream wedding.

The It! Girl's Guide to Floral Design

To feed the minds of our favorite domestic divas in Palm Beach, It! Weddings & Events recently hosted the It! Girl's Guide to Floral Design at Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens in West Palm Beach.

The evening began with a reception featuring international wines, mini bloody mary shrimp cocktails, Maine lobster on crostini, fresh crudites, fresh fruits, cheeses and — best of all — sweet treats from The Sugar Monkey. The menu complemented an aqua and tangerine color palette inspired by our favorite aqua hue and orange-handled scissors — the ones we love to grab when stripping thorns off rose stems, or cutting hydrangeas to create a compact centerpiece.

Before the It! Girls got down to business with an array of acid green orchids and mums, ivory roses and hydrangeas and plum-hued gerber daisies, It! Floral Designer Kim Votaw began the class with a few tricks of the trade for creating an impactful floral arrangement:

Stick to a color palette: Three different flowers — try ivory stock, roses and mums — in a similar hue will combine with a little greenery to offer a variety of textures and fragrances. Trying to combine too many colors and shapes in one container may result in sensory overload!

Think outside the vase: Create a tablescape using floral balls (pick up spherical oasis — that's the squeezy green florists' foam — at your local craft store), glass cylinders with floating candles and other accessories. You can also combine multiple arrangements in non-traditional containers to make a bigger impact with fewer flowers, such as three different pitchers or creamers. Got a pretty wicker ice bucket? Put some white hydrangeas in that puppy and sprinkle seashells and votives around the table for a seaside tableau.

Give it a squeeze: Healthy flowers are hearty and bounce back from a squeeze. If a flower feels wimpy in the market, it probably won't last long once you get it home. In Palm Beach, Kim recommends Publix for a great selection of stalks for DIY arrangements.

What is unique about your products? I use all natural ingredients. All products (with few exceptions) are made in house from scratch. The products I purchase are of the highest quality.

What should a bride and groom already have decided on before they meet with you for a wedding cake consultation, and what materials should they bring to the meeting? An idea of the style and flavors is nice — a consultation can be a waste of time if nothing has been discussed beforehand. Definitely know your budget! Bring any pictures or ideas you may have to the meeting — don't be shy!

What are the most popular flavor combinations, and what have been your most far-out requests? Chocolate cake with cream cheese buttercream and fresh raspberries, vanilla butter cake with lemon scented buttercream. Requests? Nothing too far out— a 2-foot-tall Louisiana hot sauce bottle for a groom's cake.

Where is the best place to stage a wedding cake during the reception, and what are some fun ways to dress up the table? Away from the bride and groom! Rose petals are so 2009, too! Dress up the table by dressing up the cake. Get rid of the silver-pated stand and go for one with character to match the cake.

What are three cost-cutting tips for those on a budget? Cupcakes! A retro dessert buffet with whole desserts. Old school layer cakes and pies. Use 8" cakes as centerpieces for the tables.

There are many reasons we love The Waters in Oshkosh, Wisconsin (no, it's not the cheese — though we do adore a good fromage). There's the intricate moldings, the glittering gold chandeliers, and the endless water views... But mostly, we relish in its storied foundation.

Overlooking the pristine waters of Lake Winnebago, The Waters dates back to 1903, when noted architect William Waters built the Georgian Revival building for the Oshkosh Yacht Club. Regarded as the finest clubhouse in the Midwest, it opened just two days before the year’s Inland Sailing Championship. These regattas became the social events of the summer season.

The City reclaimed the building during the Great Depression and later sold it to American Legion Post 70, who owned and maintained the property as their clubhouse for more than 60 years. The facility was completely renovated and converted to a special events facility in 2008 by current owners Bill and Beth Wyman, who paid careful attention to historic details. How can a couple incorporate specific song requests into the reception when working with a live band? Always review special song requests with the band in advance. Spirited Sweets from the "Boozy Baker"

The It! Girls are not known for turning down a glass of champagne or a delectable dessert. Combine the two and we just might start planning our own weddings! Lucy Baker, author of "The Boozy Baker: 75 Recipes for Spirited Sweets" has all the right moves for the home hostess who loves to end a fabulous meal on a high note.

Heart not fluttering yet? Here's a sample recipe:

Plum Biercake

Ingredients

* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 teaspoons ground ginger
* 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 pound (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 1 large egg
* 3 tablespoons molasses
* 1 cup German doppelbock beer
* 4 small plums, halved lengthwise, pitted, and cut into wedges

Preparation

This cake is a grown-up version of gingerbread that can be enjoyed at any time of the year. The cinnamon and molasses lend it a festive note that’s perfect for the holidays, yet the plums are decidedly summery. Beer, of course, knows no season. Doppelbock is a very strong German lager with a dark color and rich, malty flavor.

The recipe comes together fast, and the cake will last for up to three days well wrapped on the countertop. Leave a knife nearby for easy snacking.

To make the plum biercake:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with butter, or spray it with nonstick spray. (A square pan will work too.) Dust the pan with flour and tap out the excess.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda and salt.

In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat in the egg and the molasses. Alternately add the flour mixture and the beer to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Beat just until smooth and combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Arrange the plum wedges in rows on top of the batter. Bake the cake for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack and then cut into squares and serve.

Tips
Shake it up: Can’t find doppelbock? Substitute another dark, richly flavored beer, such as a porter or stout.

What she's obsessed with: Make-Up Forever HD foundation! It is simply amazing! You can either use a small amount for light coverage or more for a flawless photo ready finish. I love their color palate - there is a shade for every complexion.

What is so 2009: Overdone 80’s makeup is so last year! As an artist, I love to experiment with color but prefer to use it in a much more subtle and personalized manner.

What kinds of cosmetics do you use? I never leave for a job without a few key products, like the Make-Up Forever HD foundation, MAC Lipglass and Urban Decay eyeliners. Additionally, to compliment these old standbys, I have created my own line, Red Cosmetics, with my own personal touches. This line will enhance other major brands and was created based upon my personal favorites with all complexions and color tones in mind.

How do you feel about airbrushing? I have mixed feeling about airbrushing. For younger skin, it is amazing, with extreme lasting power and a flawless look. However, airbushing tends to dry out more mature skin and cake in any fine lines on the face, which is the exact opposite effect you are generally trying to achieve. A makeup artist should be well trained in airbrushing and be able to explain to a client what is best for that particular skin type before application.

How does a bride determine her signature look for the evening? Every bride should have a make-up consultation prior to her wedding date. At the consultation, the bride and artist should collaborate on the look desired. The artist should help the bride determine if she wants to look like an enhanced version of her natural look or, if she is more of a risk taker, whether she should be a little more dramatic and try a red lip or sexy smoky eye. A bride should NEVER go into a wedding feeling uncomfortable with her choices or her makeup artist!

Should she go all out, or stay within her comfort zone? I have personally seen too many make-up artists push their “signature look” on a bride, only to have the bride later look at pictures and realize that they unhappy with the finished product. As an artist, I want every bride to feel their absolute best, in the look that is right for them.

What is the best way to keep makeup looking fresh throughout a long wedding ceremony, reception and afterglow? The absolute best way to ensure your makeup stays flawless all day is to keep your makeup artist on hand to do touch ups whenever needed. However, if that isn’t in the budget, I recommend that every bride have her own “fluffing bag” complete with blotting papers, powder, blush and lip gloss. Let your maid of honor carry it for you, and don’t leave her or it out of your sight!! Last but not least, no wedding is complete without waterproof mascara -- an absolute MUST for every member of the wedding party!!!!

Belle & Maxwell's expands, adds open kitchen and dinner menu

Belle & Maxwell’s, a popular restaurant located on the famed Antique Row in West Palm Beach, underwent a complete expansion and renovation in early July 2010, doubling to 1,800 square feet to seat up to 70 guests.

An oft-selected venue for celebrations such as birthday parties, ladies’ luncheons and baby and bridal showers, the restaurant is available for private parties and catering. All of its coffees, specialty teas, scented soaps, jewelry made by local designers, cookbooks and hostess gifts are for sale. Its signature pies and cakes can be also purchased for parties and holidays.

A new open kitchen, a coffee and wine bar and two new restrooms complete the expansion. And beginning Aug. 17, Belle & Maxwell’s will also be open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday. In September, Sunday breakfast and brunch menus will be added.

“The focus has always been on using the freshest produce and ingredients,” said Executive Chef Michael Hackman.

Named for the original owner’s two dogs, Belle & Maxwell’s began as a traditional teahouse and cafe in 1995, offering an assortment of special teas from around the world and mostly vegan breakfast and lunch menus. In 2004, when proprietor Michelle Taylor assumed ownership, she added non-vegetarian items to the already successful repertoire of homemade soups, salads, quiches, chef-made sandwiches and desserts.

"I have been designing and crafting high end jewelry from natural gems, ethnic beads and pearls for the better part of two decades," says Burnett. "But nothing has spoken as seductively to my clients and me as my work with the ocean’s own precious gem: the pearl. Fortunately my travels and contacts in the South Pacific and the Far East have allowed me to hand select every pearl I use which I personally drill to my specifications. Girls were the talk of the town this spring, when the island’s hautest tastemakers gathered for a casual vernissage of the “Table It!” tabletop décor exhibition at Neiman Marcus Palm Beach. For the five-day event, Neiman Marcus invited It! Weddings & Events to design six themed tables inspired by events of their creation, such as a Bridesmaids’ High Tea, Brunch in the Garden and an Estate Rehearsal Dinner.

Nearly 100 guests attended the opening-day soiree, including Kathryn Vecellio, Julie Rudolph, Annie Falk, Brewer Schoeller, Elisabeth Munder, Terri Mersentes, Angela Culveyhouse, Beckie Stoddard and Kathryn Martin. The fresh mix of traditional and modern pieces chosen by the It! Girls from the store’s Gift Galleries was complimented by florals by Design Studio at The Breakers, paper goods by Stationer on Sunrise and confections by The Sugar Monkey.

“Our clients are well versed in tabletop design, yet they’re always looking for ways to wow their guests, many of whom have been wined and dined by the world’s foremost entertainers,” said It! Weddings & Events managing partner Aime Dunstan. “We have a ball taking their creativity to the next level, mixing traditional pieces with fun and funky accessories.”

Dunstan commissioned an aquatic centerpiece from Design Studio at The Breakers, complete with live goldfish and sculptural pincushion protea blooms, for the “Seaside Wedding Reception” table, which also included “Elysee” dinnerware by Bernardaud and Juliska stemware.

At the center of the grand display was a “Timeless Wedding Reception” themed table, on which Kim Seybert linen napkins and pagoda-inspired napkin ring holders accented J.L. Coquet’s “Hemisphere” charger, “J Chew” dinnerware by Limoges and Reidel crystal. An organic arrangement of pale pink cherry blossoms added height and volume.

The opening day afternoon soiree also included light bites by Café Boulud Palm Beach and wines by Bulletproof Wines & Spirits, as well as makeovers by YSL and an informal fashion show by Neiman Marcus.

We adored hanging with the Conde Nast girls at the eco-friendly show house designed by Inson Dubois Wood, mixing and mingling with newly engaged and newly married couples over wine and hors d'oeuvres in New York's East Village.

It! Weddings & Events has been working with BRIDES to incorporate bridal programming throughout the tri-level penthouse offered at $3.5 million, including makeup consultations with Linsey Snyder Wachalter of Face Time Beauty Concierge, stationery consultations with Bridget Williams of BDUB, and a culinary Q&A featuring Bravo's "Top Chef" star Stephen Asprinio.

Water Babies: A Festive February Birthday Dinner at Cafe Boulud Palm Beach

For those who're a little shy about celebrating their birthday, sharing the soiree can get everyone in the spirit. We recently hosted a birthday bash at one of our favorite culinary playgrounds, Cafe Boulud, for four fabulous gals (yours truly included. Clearly I'm not the shy one!) born in February.

The birthday girls invited mutual friends as well as a few others to join in the fun, keeping the night interesting and light hearted.

After mingling over cocktails, we sat for a four-course dinner by chef de cuisine Zach Bell with wine pairings from sommeliere Mariya Kovacheva. Patissier Matthew Petersen created a birthday cake with chocolate ganache filling and buttercream icing to round out the evening in anything-but-typical birthday fashion!

15th Annual Evening on Antique Row Brings Record Crowd

Though temperatures dipped into the mid 40s, a record number of young friends and supporters the Historical Society of Palm Beach County flocked to the 15th annual Evening on Antique Row. Shop owners along South Dixie Highway opened their stores to more than 2,200 guests, highlighting West Palm Beach's world-renowned antique and design district.

Co-chaired by Aime Dunstan, Jen Groden, Melissa Lee and Laura Wissa, in conjunction with district association president Tracy Coffey, Evening on Antique Row is the primary fund-raiser for the Young Friends of the Society. Making an appearance for the second year at event was a selection of classic cars from Chariots of Palm Beach, and a garden lounge complete with cigars, music and adult beverages designed by Dunstan Designs and sponsored by Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens and Gentlemen of the Garden.

The evening continued for members of the Young Friends Host Committee with the exclusive After Party on the chic rooftop pool deck of CityPlace South Tower, where guests enjoyed a live drag performance by “Maxine,” “Mitzi” and “Ricky.” A spread of hors d’oeuvres prepared by Sandy James Fine Food Productions, made-to-order hot mini Ruben sandwiches prepared on site by Grease Burger Bar, and an array of desserts graciously donated by Café Chardonnay were complemented by a Ketel One Vodka ice bar.

Proceeds from the Evening on Antique Row support the educational programs of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County and the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum. W. PALM BEACH, Fla. (January 25, 2010) — Nearly 300 highly acclaimed interior and landscape designers, philanthropists and community and social leaders attended the private Preview Party for the 2010 Red Cross Designers' Show House on January 20 at CityPlace South Tower. Opening night was the first opportunity for design aficionados to preview nearly 20 inspired interior and exterior spaces in the luxury residential tower, artfully transformed by the 15 participating designers of this year's Show House that runs through
Feb. 20.

After touring the inspired rooms in four models on the middle penthouse level, guests were welcomed to the ninth-floor pool deck for canapés prepared by two-time James Beard Foundation Award nominee Chef Zach Bell and music by DJ Nick Flash. Guests enjoyed signature cocktails courtesy of Blue Martini and Bacardi USA, Inc., which showcased its GREY GOOSE La Poire vodka paired with fresh fruit juices. Preview Party chairman Aime Dunstan added some sultry sizzle to the poolside event with a live fashion presentation featuring Spring 2010 swimwear by tibi and Palm Beach's own Jordann Jewelry, as well as a trunk show from which 15 percent of Jordann Jewelry sales was donated to the Red Cross. Sponsors included Lamborghini Palm Beach and Miami-based Bacardi USA, Inc., which has supported the preview event for the past five years.

"The preview event is always high energy and sets a glamorous stage for the rest of the four-week duration of the Show House," said Bill Kopp, general chairman of the 2010 Red Cross Designers' Show House. "The caliber of this year�s designers, coupled with the high-profile location, positions the 2010 Show House to break all previous attendance records."

Now in its 34th season, the 2010 Red Cross Designers' Show House features more than 15 interior and exterior spaces on the middle penthouse level of CityPlace South Tower, the 20-story luxury residential tower on Okeechobee Boulevard in Downtown West Palm Beach. The Show House is open to the public through February 20 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $30 per person. Martha Stewart Weddings Editorial Director Darcy Miller dishes on wedding survival

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this month — now that's an office party we wouldn't miss! — Martha Stewart Weddings is one of the most celebrated magazines among wedding and event aficionados. On Jan. 17, Editorial Director Darcy Miller was on hand at The Palm Beach Wedding Party, hosted by New York's Wedding Library and The Breakers hotel.

Here, Darcy's tips for a sublime soiree:

"Try to personalize it as much as you can. A lot of venues come with an ice sculpture, but instead of a swan, get it in the shape of a wedding cake."

Focus on details that are personal for you.

"The greatest compliment is when guests leave your wedding and say that it felt like you, not your planner or your mother." Set up a folding screen with childhood photos, or have your photos printed on confetti for your guests to toss. Write personalized notes on paper chargers.

"It is important that all the vendors are nice," Miller says, "but there are some where chemistry is more important, such as with your planner or photographer. If they're kind of annoying and you're a little bit stressed, it's not a good combination."

Photographer Donna Newman echoed Miller's sentiment, touting quality over quantity. "I would rather have a photographer stay for fewer hours and capture beautiful moments."

Another tip: Never ask a photographer to emulate the style of another photographer, Newman says. It won't work out in the end.

"At the end of the day, it's a party. It's who you're spending your life with that matters," says Miller. "The most important thing is to find the right person to marry."

PALM BEACH (Dec. 8, 2009) — Perhaps every young girl dreams of a storybook wedding, collecting fabric swatches and magazine clippings of cascading bouquets, elegant wedding gowns and tablescapes throughout the years. Rarely, however, do two young women who have designed and executed those very fairytale soirees come together with a collective 15 years experience to offer their comprehensive knowledge for social, corporate and nonprofit clients.

Aime Dunstan and Blair Griffin are proud to announce the launch of It! Weddings & Events. The pair has a passion for parties, and is excited to share their chic style and limitless enthusiasm with a rarified list of It! clients.
